How My Savannah Photography Studio Makes Newborn Sessions Simple

Katrina Barrow Photography is a full-service newborn photography studio serving Savannah, Georgia, and the surrounding Lowcountry. With more than 10 years of experience photographing newborns, I create a relaxed, baby-led experience that includes professional hair and makeup, a curated studio wardrobe, family portraits, and custom artwork designed for your home.

Bringing home a new baby is exciting, emotional, and exhausting all at the same time. Between sleepless nights, feedings, and learning your baby’s rhythm, planning a photo session can feel like one more thing on your to-do list.

We’ve built our newborn experience differently. From the moment you inquire until your finished artwork is hanging on your walls, every step is designed to make newborn photography simple, relaxing, and enjoyable for busy families.

Your Session Starts Before You Ever Walk Through Our Doors

Many parents think their newborn session begins the day they arrive at the studio, but the planning actually starts weeks before that. Once you reserve your due date, we’ll walk you through exactly what to expect, answer your questions, and handle the details so you never have to wonder what comes next. Since babies rarely arrive on schedule, we simply reserve space around your due date and schedule your session after your little one is born.

Our goal is to make newborn photography one less thing for you to think about during one of the busiest seasons of your life.

You Don’t Have to Shop for Outfits

Choosing outfits is one of the biggest stressors for new parents, so we’ve taken that off your plate. Our studio wardrobe includes timeless clothing for moms, newborns, siblings, and many young children, along with wraps, blankets, bonnets, and carefully selected accessories. Instead of shopping for clothes you’ll wear once, you can simply arrive knowing everything has already been coordinated.

Every wardrobe piece is selected with timeless portraits in mind, creating photographs that will look just as beautiful decades from now as they do today

Professional Hair and Makeup Is Included

Many moms tell us they almost skipped newborn photos because they didn’t feel like themselves yet, and we completely understand. Every full newborn session includes professional hair and makeup so you can relax while getting pampered before stepping in front of the camera. While you’re enjoying a quiet moment, we’ll begin settling your baby so everything is ready when you are.

Being taken care of looks good on you, and that’s exactly how we want every mom to feel.

I Photograph One Newborn Family Per Day

Babies don’t follow schedules, which is why we don’t either. Some sleep the entire session, some need extra cuddles, and others want to stop for a few feedings. By photographing only one newborn family each day, there’s never another appointment waiting behind yours.

If your baby needs extra time, we have it. If an older sibling needs a break, that’s perfectly fine too. Photographing one family each day allows every newborn session to remain calm, flexible, and completely baby-led.

Baby-Led Photography Always Comes First

Every newborn is different, and we believe your session should reflect that. Some babies love being wrapped, others prefer stretching naturally, and some simply want to stay close to mom or dad.

Rather than forcing babies into trendy poses, we photograph them in ways that are comfortable, natural, and safe. Our style focuses on genuine connection and timeless portraits because we believe your baby should always look like your baby.

Family Portraits Matter Just As Much

While your newborn may be the newest member of the family, these photographs are about your family’s story as a whole. Parents and siblings are included in every full newborn session, creating images you’ll treasure long after your baby has outgrown the newborn stage.

If you have young children, we’ll photograph them first while they’re happy and engaged before letting them relax. It keeps the experience enjoyable for everyone and takes the pressure off little ones with short attention spans.

Choosing Your Images Shouldn’t Feel Overwhelming

After your session, we’ll professionally edit your portraits before inviting you back to the studio—or meeting with you over Zoom—to view your gallery.

We’ll help you compare your favorite images, design wall galleries, choose album layouts, and select artwork that fits your home. Some families choose digital images, while others invest in framed artwork or heirloom albums. Whatever you decide, we’ll guide you through the process so you never feel like you’re making those decisions alone.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I book my newborn session?

Most families reserve their due date during the second trimester. Since we photograph a limited number of newborns each month, booking before your baby arrives gives us the greatest flexibility.

How old should my baby be?

Most newborn sessions take place within the first two weeks after birth, but beautiful portraits can absolutely be created with older newborns as well.

What should we wear?

Our studio wardrobe includes beautiful options for moms, newborns, siblings, and many young children. We’ll help coordinate everything before your session, so there’s no need to spend hours shopping.

What if my baby cries?

That’s completely normal. Every session is baby-led, meaning we’ll stop whenever your baby needs to eat, cuddle, or simply take a break.

Do I need to bring blankets or props?

No. We provide nearly everything needed for your newborn session, including wraps, blankets, bonnets, and accessories. If you have a meaningful family heirloom you’d like to include, we’re always happy to incorporate it.

How long does a newborn session last?

Every baby is different, so we never rush. Because we photograph only one newborn family each day, there’s plenty of time for feeding, soothing, diaper changes, and cuddles whenever they’re needed.

Do you offer digital images?

Yes. Families can choose digital images, custom framing, heirloom albums, or a combination of both during their ordering appointment.

Why Families Choose Katrina Barrow Photography

Families throughout Savannah, Pooler, Richmond Hill, Rincon, Guyton, Bluffton, and the surrounding Lowcountry choose Katrina Barrow Photography because every detail is designed to make newborn photography easier.

Instead, you’ll enjoy a full-service experience where every detail has already been considered—from professional hair and makeup and a curated wardrobe to baby-led posing and custom artwork designed specifically for your home.

The newborn stage passes quickly, but the memories don’t have to. Our job is to preserve these first weeks beautifully so you can spend your time enjoying them.
