There’s something about beach session season that sneaks up on me every year.
One minute I’m unpacking Christmas ornaments and the next I’m texting families saying, “Wait… are we really doing beach photos again already?”
Beach sessions have quietly become one of my favorite traditions.
Every year we welcome back so many of our families for an evening of sunshine, sandy toes, salty air, and the kind of snuggles that somehow only happen when kids aren’t being asked to sit still.
And if I’m being honest, my favorite part isn’t even the beach.
It’s seeing the babies.
The little ones I photographed wrapped up as newborns who now sprint across the shoreline. The toddlers who once needed breaks every five minutes and now have missing teeth and opinions. Families who come back year after year and suddenly realize they’re celebrating a fifth or sixth birthday.
It’s one of the sweetest reminders that family photos aren’t really about documenting milestones.
They’re about noticing change while it’s happening.
Beach sessions on Tybee always feel a little different than studio sessions. Kids can move. Parents relax. Everyone settles in a little faster. The goal isn’t perfectly posed.
It’s preserving this season exactly as it feels.
These are the images that end up becoming favorites years later.
If beach photos have been sitting on your “we really should do that” list, this may be your sign.

In all honesty, my favorite part of our beach pictures is seeing just how big my families’ babies have grown. Many of them, I have photographed since birth and are celebrating their 5 or 6 birthday this year.
