From Babies to Big Kids: Why the Wooditch Family Still Makes Time for Yearly Photos

I’ve been photographing the Wooditch family since their first baby, Sam, was just a few days old. Back then, our sessions revolved around feeding schedules, swaddles, and baby yawns. We’d carefully tiptoe around nap time, and mom would pack all the baby things—just in case.

Fast forward a few years, and the Wooditches showed up for their fall session with two full-blown kids. No strollers, no sippy cups—just siblings giggling about school, running wild between shots, and giving us that classic sibling banter we all secretly love.

This season looks completely different for them now. But the reason they show up every fall hasn’t changed a bit.

A New Kind of Chaos

If you’re in this stage of life, you get it. It’s a different kind of full—school drop-offs, work meetings, soccer practice, and trying to squeeze in dinner before bedtime. The toddler phase is behind you, but things haven’t exactly slowed down. If anything, they’ve only picked up speed.

The Wooditch family is in that season too. And while it might be tempting to skip the yearly photo session in the name of “we’re too busy,” they continue to make space for it—because they know how quickly this chapter is flying by.

What Made This Session Work

Let’s be honest—family photos can feel like one more thing on your to-do list. But over the years, we’ve created a rhythm that works for the Wooditches, and that’s made all the difference.

Here’s what helped this year feel effortless:

  • Outfits were handled ahead of time. We pulled clothing options that worked for the entire family and aligned with the color palette in their home. Everything was tried on and tested ahead of time, so there was no guesswork the day-of.
  • No pressure for the kids to “perform.” These two are full of energy and personality—and that’s exactly what we wanted to capture. Our session was built around movement, play, and patience (with plenty of silly faces and games in between).
  • Framing and installation were already planned. Mom didn’t have to stress about what would look good on the walls. We designed pieces that would seamlessly fit their space and had everything professionally installed. No extra errands. No time spent second-guessing. Just memories on the wall—done.
  • Peace of mind. More than anything, this session gave mom the comfort of knowing it was all taken care of. No overthinking. No wondering if it would turn out. Just a chance to be in the moment with her kids.

Holding On to Right Now

These days, the Wooditch family is in the thick of school projects, after-school snacks, and busy weekday evenings. Their babies have grown into big kids with opinions and inside jokes. And while the sessions look different now, the heart behind them hasn’t changed.

They still want to remember what this season feels like.
They still want their kids to see themselves on the walls at home.
And they still believe in pressing pause—even just for an hour—to soak it all in.

If you’re in the middle of the big kid years and wondering if it’s “too late” for family photos—let this be your sign: it’s not. In fact, this might be the most important time of all.

Because they won’t be this version of themselves for long.
